Argentinean country fans meet on September
Country Music in the Land of Oranges and Peaches
The last weekend in September will be a landmark date in the
history of Country Music in Argentina. For the firs time there will
be a gathering of national bands that play Country Music and other
related styles, delighting the public with almost 20 hours of shows
with a branch of the Paraná River as a backdrop.
Just as once Rock made its way into the country, and was assimilated
and adapted to the style and feeling of Argentine musicians, Country,
Rockabilly and swing having doing its own thing. Dealing the comings
and goings of the economic climate that sometimes and sometimes
not allowed the popularization of musical material spread disproportionably
compared to other styles of music, nonetheless there have been those
who began to seek out and appreciate this music. Perhaps it was
not until the last decade, with its great strides in globalization,
when fans of this particular style began to get to know each other.
Two years ago, an ambitious and solitary attempt was made to create
an Internet site as a physical place where fans could meet.
Within a few months of trying, country2.com was formed as a genuine
place to get-together, and it has gathered collectors, those curious,
adventurers, and fans as well. Among these are also various bands
and soloists, who play tribute to the music they love to play. Even
though Country Music is the main style on this site, there have
also been representations by Bluegrass, Swing, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly
an more.
Since then one idea has been the focus of country2.com; that of
putting together a festival in central city accessible to all and
the seat of the web page. San Pedro, as a city that has the means
to receive a great number of visitors and situated half way between
Buenos Aires and Rosario, will be the gathering place for a community
composed, up to now of 20 bands and hundreds of fans that will share
in unforgettable times out side in the open air, in a natural stage
that is truly beautiful.
All the information about the festival, the program and the bands
that will come a to San Pedro, is available at www.country2.com/festival.
